We've been having chronic issues with storm water drainage after mild storms in our site in Iraq. Upon checking, I found the original designs which were prepared by CEC (back in 2013). The root cause of all issues was that the assumptions were totally wrong. They've used a storm intensity of 1.5 mm/hr despite that 20mm/hr storms are quite common. They've came up with this figure after researching weather websites for annual rainfall, rather than following a scientific method that is based on storm intensity - duration - frequency as any knowledgeable designer would do. As a result, the whole network is inadequate, poorly designed and doesn't comply with standards. The pumping station is severely undersized and we have floods after mild storms despite being in a port terminal!! I am not sure if they've improved since 2013 (I am writing this in 2020) but I'd proceed with caution if I were you.

They charged for project consultancy but I have never seen any engineer on my project site. But it was compulsory to get there stamp on all papers for official submission, so we had to pay them.
